Contact the owner of the page/site [who no longer offers a particular service] and request that they add a link to your (still live and active site!) from their page which no longer offers the service. It's a win for the site owner as they provide a useful page to any of their users who find the page and it's a win for you because, well, did you see my comment about the page being PR6?

In an outrageous act of selfishness and greed the BBC has decided to stop giving real links to the websites featured in the “Related Internet Links” section on the right hand side of each news story.

Anchor text is a major ranking factor - it is hard to manipulate (at least it is getting harder now after Google started its anti-paid-links war and got really good at spotting link schemes).

When someone asks me to look at their backlinks there are two problems that continually popup, websites supported by lots of tiny weak links, or websites supported by one single overwhelming link.
